This is a behinds the scenes look at how sports portraits are created with Kirk Pullen Photography. A local high school was purchasing sports banners for their senior athletes. The athletes of that school were very excited about the images that I created for them.
In case you didn't read my other blog post, I'll describe what is going on in the video. I used a black background and had planned to only shoot from the waist up for the banners, so that the athlete would show up larger on the banner. I used five lights and some of them had yellow colored gels. The yellow gels were used to light up the water that was sprayed behind the athletes. I asked the athletes what kind of pose that they wanted, but I directed them to keep their poses within the dimensions of the banner. So what that meant was no wide posing. The athletes did not get wet because the water spray was a few feet behind them. The great thing about using water spray and colored gels, is that every athlete's banner looked different.
If you have an athlete that wants unique portraits such as this, try booking a studio session with Kirk Pullen Photography! I can easily create this look or many others as I have light painting tools, smoke machines and other gadgets in my photography arsenal.
