I am excited to have two photographs in the latest edition of Wildlife in North Carolina magazine! Every year the magazine holds a photo contest for photographs taken of wildlife in North Carolina. I received second place for the Wild Landscapes category.  The image is of the third jetty in Buxton, North Carolina at the former site of the Cape Hatteras lighthouse. The jetties were used to help prevent erosion and preserve the beach in front of the lighthouse. The lighthouse was moved a quarter mile inland in the late 1990's. I used a 10 stop neutral density filter to get a 15 second exposure of the water, which made the water look ghostly.

I also received second place in the Invertebrates category for a picture of a long-legged fly on a Gardenia leaf. This particular photo was painful for me because I ended up having chiggers feasting on my legs. I learned that when I shoot bug macros, insect repellant is a must even if you can't see the bugs!
