I photographed the Henderson family in Wallace, North Carolina several weeks ago. They had a Japanese maple tree in their yard which they wanted as a background. Japanese maple trees come in an array of colors and this one had great earthy tones. After several portraits at the tree, we moved to a spot closer to the middle of their yard to simplify the setting. I wanted the family and the sun with as little else in the photo as possible. We waited until near sunset to get the best color for the images. Sunset portraits are a great way to add "wow" to any family portrait.
