I worked with the Thomas family back in September. Brian and Denita Thomas have a ministry, God 1st, and Brian hosts his own radio program. They needed a few photos for their website. I recommended an outdoor location on the campus of the University of Mount Olive (UMO). UMO has a really beautiful outdoor garden with pebble walkways, iron workings, stoned walls, a bridge, and many colorful plants. I utilized as many structures as possible to create interest in the photos. I also found colors that would compliment the family's clothing. I thought it would be a good idea to use several lights to add dimension to the couple. Sometimes just using one light works in conjunction with the sun, but on this day, the sun wasn't cooperating. I, of course, used a soft light on their faces and I also lit them from behind, which can add a sort of rim light to the side of their clothes and head. It was really humid and hot, but the Thomas family did not complain. We even had the children jump in for a few photos. Brian was very pleased with the portraits that I created for him and his family.
