I recently had a special request from Brian and Kelsey to do night portraits in the downtown section of Goldsboro. They wanted to capture some memorable moments and celebrate their engagement. Typically, I don't do wedding or engagement photography, but Brian has been a long time friend of my family, so I accepted his request. I think it was great that he wanted night portraits. I pointed out the fact that downtown Goldsboro has a multitude of Christmas lights and decorations and would make for some unique photos. We had a fun time, moving from spot to spot, dodging traffic and listening to Brian play his guitar. I used different lenses to get different effects from the lights. I don't usually use my 600mm lens for portraits because it's heavy to carry around. However, I knew it would be great for making the Christmas lights blur out and create great bokeh. My son Max held the portable lights for the whole session and the biggest challenge that we faced, was having the light show up in the glass of window store fronts behind Brian and Kelsey. Sometimes there was no way around having the light in the shot, but in some of the photos we completed moved the light off to their side, in order to lose the reflection. I always love shooting in this area, because there are so many great locations and interesting things to interact with.
